The Possibility of an Island
2015
In the science fiction novel "The Possibility of an Island" written by French writer Wellebecq tells a story about cloning. After a thousand years of survival, the clone gradually loses his desires and emotions in the process, as well as his ability to suffer and be happy. Until the 25th generation of clones, Daniel 25 finally crossed the fence set by his father and ancestors (which used to be a tight protection for the clone's genes) and abandoned the clone's life continuation, he went to the wilderness and started to try to find the "possible island" in the prophecy.
The title of the exhibition is "The Possibility of an Island", hoping to dilute the connotation that needs to be explained philosophically through a literary expression. In the setting of Wellebecq's novel, the island refers to an uncharted territory where a certain possibility exists, and the search for this island means the completion of the break with patriarchal inheritance. This state of affairs is in fact the direct problem that people are currently facing - the dilemma of choosing between continuity and abandonment. This exhibition attempts to throw out a pan-cultural concept about the "island of possibility", and through the "anxious existence" of each person in the dilemma of choice, the artists will be able to recognize their true identity by constantly asking themselves questions, and thus face the results behind the choice. The result behind the choice. Either response to this question will be reassembled in a non-linear, ambiguous and bifurcated framework, and each artist's different situation will become an "island" in relation to the possibilities of this exhibition.
